How to Wash Cloth Products

5 Easy Steps to Washing Your Cloth Products

When it comes to washing your cloth products, you must always follow the directions specific to the label/brand you are using.

This is because different manufacturers use different products and fibres to create your cloth products. For cloth menstrual pads, cloth wipes, reusable nursing pads, and any other reusable cloth products- follow the same rules as nappies for your brand unless stated otherwise by the brand.

Here are some general steps to follow to ensure you get the best life out of your cloth products:

  1. Flush solids in the toilet.

You can use rubber gloves and a silicone scrubbing brush to assist you, and nappy liners can also make this step easier.

  2. Prepare the item for the prewash.

Remove all inserts, liners, and boosters, undo any snaps, and fold away hook and loops.

  3. Prewash or rinse every 1-2 days.

This is a short cycle with detergent or booster at 40-60°C, followed by a rinse and spin at 1000rpm or less.

  4. Main wash every 1-3 days.

This is a long cycle of 2-3 hours, using the recommended dose of detergent for your load. Wash at 40-60°C, followed by a rinse and spin at 1000rpm or less.

  5. Dry your products.

If the item is waterproof or water resistant (contains PUL or TPU like nappy covers, nursing pads, or menstrual pads) then the item should be air or line dried out of direct sun.

Inserts, reusable liners, and boosters are typically able to be tumble dried if desired.

*Do not wash over 60 degrees Celsius.

*Do not use fabric softeners or bleaches.

*Do not to tumble dry any laminated/waterproof/PUL products.
